Tokyo, Japan

We recently returned from a two-week trip in Japan. Our first stop on the trip was Tokyo, where we spent a jam-packed 4 days exploring the worlds largest city!

Where to Stay:

We stayed in the heart of Shinjuku at the Hotel Gracery. The hotel has a giant godzilla on the exterior. The location was great for us and very central to all the things we wanted to see. While we loved our hotel, if we had to do it all over again, we’d stay in an area of town a bit on the quieter and slower side. We (mostly Holly) fell in love with Nakameguro and would love to rent a small place in this beautiful neighborhood.

Restaurants:

Words cannot describe how amazing the food was in Tokyo!

What to Do:

There are endless sights to see in Tokyo, but here are our favorites:

  • teamLab Borderless | An immersive art experience. It’s hard to put into words how cool teamLabs is, you just have to experience it for yourself.
  • Shibuya Sky Observation Deck | 360 degree views of the city atop a skyscraper. If you’re lucky you might even see Mt. Fuji on a clear sunny day.
  • Explore the Outer Tsukiji Fish Market | We grabbed some skewers, peach ice cream and chopsticks to take home.
  • Chill out at Miyashita Park | I love how the city incorporated a green space amongst the high rise buildings.
  • Stroll down Takeshita Street in Harajuku | Fun people watching and local shops
  • Go shopping at the Jordan World of Flight Shibuya | Amazing collection of Jordan gear, city exclusive t-shirts and a fun content studio.
  • Check out the many vending machines around the city | A quick google searches reveals theres approximately 4 million vending machines in Tokyo. They come in handy when you need a quick refreshment. We were fans of the Suntory Boss iced coffee and iced peach tea.
  • Explore the slower neighborhoods | We loved Nakameguro
  • Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku | Ride the escalators up and down the kaleidoscope of mirrors. There’s even a rooftop with views!
